Carlow College, St. Patrick’s is located at the heart of Carlow’s Cultural Quarter with the VISUAL Arts Centre and the Carlow Art Collection located on campus, the Carlow Arts Festival held on our grounds each year and the County Library, Museum, Tourist Office, Cathedral & Courthouse all located nearby.

On the grounds of Carlow College, St. Patrick’s is the magnificent Arts Centre, VISUAL, home of the largest single-gallery space in Ireland and the 320-seat George Bernard Shaw Theatre. It produces programmes of both national and international contemporary art, new work by leading artists, up to the minute digital media, artist talks, tours, workshops and intimate music gigs in the bar, with theatre, film, dance and comedy all happening in the theatre also. The College produces a number of events in partnership with the Visual each year and also offers discounted performance tickets for students throughout the year.

Carlow College, St. Patrick’s is the festival HQ for the world-renowned Carlow Arts Festival which is a multi-disciplinary arts festival which is held in June each year and are a key event in Ireland’s Cultural calendar. In 2018, as festival HQ, Carlow College, St. Patrick’s was home to   acts & events such as King Kong Company, Stockton’s Wing, Extraordinary Bodies, The Trip, D-Construction and the Open Air Cinema.

The Carlow Art Collection is proudly housed in Carlow College, St. Patrick’s and is a highly prized collection which attracts visitors both nationally and internationally each year. The collection boasts the work of numerous internationally acclaimed artists and at its core, is a collection of invaluable drawings by Carlow’s most famous artist Frank O’Meara (1853-1888).

Culture Night is a unique celebration which happens across the island of Ireland each year, celebrating Arts, Heritage and the Culture of Ireland. Carlow College, St. Patrick’s is a key location in the Carlow celebrations with events taking place on campus each year. In 2017 events such as Circus Workshop, ‘Firefly’ and the display of the Carlow Art Collection were held in Carlow College, St. Patrick’s as part of the celebrations.
