Peter Kieran obtained his qualification in Social Science at University College Dublin. He joined the South Eastern Health Board in 1974 as a Community Care Social Worker. He subsequently received his Diploma in Social Work from Glasgow University while practicing Child Protection Social Work. He received his Masters in Social Administration, and some years later his Masters in Counselling, both from UCC. He worked for a short period as Director of Counselling at St Catherine‘s Community Services Centre, Carlow, and then as Specialist, Children and Family Services, with the Health Service Executive (South) until his retirement in December 2010.
