Debate in the Agora

Debate in the Agora

‘Here Together’ project for the Political Philosophy & Secular Belief Systems module

Carlow College, St Patrick’s third year Political Philosophy students in collaboration with Public Relations and Media students from the Institute of Technology, Carlow, will present a debate in the Agora on a matter of pressing local importance. The Agora was an open space in ancient Greek cities used both for commercial activities and political debate. In this space, citizens could discuss contentious matters and come to consensus on the solution. This safeguarded the stability of the city by ensuring that political debate was held in its proper place and stayed there. Using this forum, the students will explore notions of citizenship, political space and engagement in matters relevant to us living together in a shared space. The event will be recorded by students from the BSc in TV and Media Production course at the Institute of Technology, Carlow, and placed on the ‘Here Together’ website as a record of the event.

Date: 11th December 2018 at 1pm
Venue: Public Space, Ground Floor, Central Services Building of Carlow Institute of Technology.
