Advanced training for leading progressive therapeutic care

Our new Masters in Leadership in Therapeutic Child and Social Care*, previously the M.A. in Therapeutic Child Care is a unique programme developed to create positive change in social care practice in Ireland. The course has been updated with the title now acknowledging its broad social care context and its continued aim of leading Irish social care towards excellence, but the unique learning experience will remain the same.

We are now inviting applications for the M.A. programme, commencing in October 2018. This advanced-practice course is aimed at Social Care Workers and practitioners in the fields of Residential and Community Child Care, Social Work, Education, Psychology, Play Therapy, Child Psychotherapy and other disciplines that work therapeutically with individuals and their families in residential or community settings. The course has also earned a reputation for attracting leaders in social care and for developing students to become leaders in their places of work. The course is taught over two years, one day a week and has a maximum class group size of 16 students.

The programme emphasises a psychodynamic approach to understanding and helping troubled individuals. A learning community is built that equally promotes the academic, professional and personal development of the students. The learning setting has an experiential base in order to reflect the therapeutic workplace setting.
