The college nurse is Maura Hennessy. Maura is a member of the student support services team within the college. The main services that the nurse provides are:
Working to provide a qulaity healthcare service
to all our students.
Health Promotion / Education is an important
aspect of the nurse's role, enabling students
to look at their overall health and well-being in a
pro-active way.
The nurse also works closely with the counsellor
and the chaplain as a support and a listening
ear to students who are experiencing
difficulties with college life.
The nurse provides a link with our off-campus
GP service, Dr. Woods

Carlow College provides a free medical service to all its students. The aim of the healthcare service is to provide nursing and medical care to students who often put their health low on their list of priorities.
The service is provided by on-campus Nurse Maura Hennessy and off-campus Doctor Woods. We adopt a holistic approach to student healthcare, incorporating evertything from dietary advice to referral for counsellin gto contraceptive advice and sometimes just a chat.
We hop to proivde on-going care for those with medical problems such as asthma and diabetes who may be away from their families.
Registration
All students are requested to register with Nurse Maura Hennessy. Registration forms are provided in student "induction packs" and students should complete these and return as soon as possible to the nurse's office.
The nurse's service if free of charge to all students of Carlow College. The GP service is charged at a reduced rate of €25 per visit and appointments are made through the nurse.
Medical Cards
Do you or your parents have a current medical card?
If so attendance at the doctor's surgery is coverd as with your oen GP.
Sometimes it is easier to change medical cards for students to thir local office of the Health Executive Service for the duration of college attendance.
Students aged 23 years and over may apply for a medical card as a mature student. This application to the Health Board is means tested.
Application forms for Medical Card and GP visit cards are available from the nurse's office.
