Please ask the library staff beforehand if you want to look at any of these. Our journals are also bound annually and then shelved in the library, at either side of the main stairs leading to first floor.

History
The P.J. Brophy Memorial Library commemorates the life of Fr. P.J. Brophy who was born at Castlemore in the parish of Ballon/Rathoe in 1919. He was an inspiration to generations of students for the priesthood during his time as president at Carlow College.
The library also commemorates Fr. Brophy’s personal commitment, his breadth of vision of the Church, his openness to emerging ideas and his personal dignity and charm which endeared him to so many. In 1974 he accepted an appointment to Kilcock as parish priest and two years later he returned to Graiguecullen-Killeshin, where he lived for the remainder of his life. He died in on March 3, 1989 on his way to celebrate Mass. The 4,500 volumes bequeathed by Fr. Brophy formed the genesis of the library’s collection which currently stands at approximately 14,000.
The P.J. Brophy Memorial Library was opened officially by President Mary McAleese on 19th December, 2006.
