In 1998 we introduced training in social care to professional
level with the National Diploma in Applied Social Studies which is now known as B.A. in Applied Social Studies in Social Care, and which
caters for graduates from Carlow College and other colleges offering
social care courses or their equivalents.
In 2003 we introduced the B.A. (Honours) in Applied Social Studies in Social Care which gives students an opportunity to deepen their knowledge and focus on specialised areas.
Our staff team includes a number of Social Care practitioners
who bring their professional experience into the classroom, ensuring
that you have up-to-date and relevant training. We have a strong
emphasis on helping students to explore links between theory and
practice.
There is a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere in the Social Studies
department. Students are supported where possible while in college
or on work placement, and are encouraged to develop, academically,
personally and professionally.
The Social Care profession is emerging as a clear career option
for committed, energetic caring individuals who want to work professionally
with vulnerable children and adults.
