The Higher Certificate and B.A. Courses offered at Carlow College were launched in 1996 and 1998 respectively. The Child Care Act of 1991 and subsequent legislation has resulted in an increase in the range and scope of personnel employed by Health Boards and other agencies in family support and child care services.

The teaching staff are experienced in the social care field and keen to ensure that training is relevant and up-to-date.
