B.A. & B.A. (Hons) in Humanities

Both of these courses comprise core subjects drawn from English Literature, History, Philosophy, and Theology.

Elective options are drawn from subjects such as Communications & Media Studies, Creative Writing, Drama & Theatre, Irish Studies, Languages (An Ghaeilge, Hispanic Studies), Psychology, Social Studies, and World Religions.

In general terms, Year I and II of the B.A. (Hons) degree programmes provide students with a thorough grounding in the core Humanities subjects of English Literature, History, Philosophy and Theology. Students also choose a number of Elective Options included on the above list of Elective Subjects. In the later years of their degree students plan their own routes through the Humanities programme in consultation with their Academic Advisor.

B.A (Hons) in English and History

(Autumn 2009)

This is a four year course. In years one and two, students take one-third of subjects in English, one-third in History and, one-third in electives drawn from a broad range of subjects in the Humanities Department (philosophy, theology, Irish, Spanish, psychology, drama and performance studies, communications, creative writing, social studies etc.) Coursework in both English and History increases in year three and year four focuses exclusively on the two degree subjects.

B.A (Hons) in English and Spanish

This is a four year course. In year one and two, students take one-third of subjects in English, one-third in Spanish and the remainder in electives (philosophy, theology, Irish, psychology, drama and performance studies, communications, creative writing, social studies).
