James Heaney

Academic Director

Welcome to the Department of Humanities.

Humanities is a term used to describe a broad

range of academic disciplines such as history, literature, philosophy and theology. The study of Humanities develops the individual's capacity for constructive and flexible thinking about important issues raised by these subjects.

At Carlow College, students of the Humanities are encouraged to examine and gain a reflective undestanding of the history of ideas, and of the influences determining the course of contemporary Irish society.
