The Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) validate
the courses in Humanities and Social Studies at Carlow College.
Student fees for these courses are included in the Department of
Education grant scheme. If you are eligible under this grant scheme,
you will not have to pay fees at Carlow College.
What are the Admission Requirements for
Humanities?
To qualify for a place on the Humanities B.A. (Honours) degree
programme you need a minimum of six passes in the Leaving Certificate
to include a language and at least two higher C3's. For the Humanities
B.A. (Ordinary) programme, candidates are required to have five
passes including a language in the Leaving Certificate.
All candidates are required to apply via the CAO system. In 2005
CAO first round entry points for the B.A. (Ordinary) in Humanities
were 255. In the same year CAO first round entry points for the
B.A. (Honours) in Humanities were 310. Entry points are subject
to change each year depending on the demand for places.
Mature Student Applications
Mature students who do not meet the normal academic requirements
may be admitted onto a Humanities course based on their experience
and motivation. Mature students must apply through the CAO in the
normal way. The College will assess their application individually
and they may be asked to attend an interview.
