How do I apply to study Humanities at Carlow College?

All applications to Humanities courses at Carlow College are through the CAO system. The CAO deadline for receipt of applications each year is the 1st February. Mature students must apply through the CAO in the normal way and the College will then consider their application individually.

The Higher Education and Training Awards Council (HETAC) validate the courses in Humanities and Social Studies at Carlow College. Student fees for these courses are included in the Department of Education grant scheme. If you are eligible under this grant scheme, you will not have to pay fees at Carlow College.

What are the Admission Requirements for Humanities?

To qualify for a place on the Humanities B.A. (Honours) degree programme you need a minimum of six passes in the Leaving Certificate to include a language and at least two higher C3's. For the Humanities B.A. (Ordinary) programme, candidates are required to have five passes including a language in the Leaving Certificate.

All candidates are required to apply via the CAO system. In 2005 CAO first round entry points for the B.A. (Ordinary) in Humanities were 255. In the same year CAO first round entry points for the B.A. (Honours) in Humanities were 310. Entry points are subject to change each year depending on the demand for places.

Mature Student Applications

Mature students who do not meet the normal academic requirements may be admitted onto a Humanities course based on their experience and motivation. Mature students must apply through the CAO in the normal way. The College will assess their application individually and they may be asked to attend an interview.
