At Carlow College, St. Patrick’s we are pleased to offer you an opportunity to study a range of single subject (otherwise known as modules). We believe Part-Time study is a flexible scheme that allows part-time students to study up to six subjects per year towards a full QQI award in a chosen area of study. Each module is worth 5 credits, therefore as a Part-Time student, a learner may accumulate a maximum of 30 credits or minimum of 5 credits per academic year. Full time students undertake 60 credits per year. If a Part-Time learner wishes to complete the stage over the two-year period, they must accumulate 30 credits (15 in semester one and 15 in semester two).
Subjects/Modules and Timetable
Subjects/modules are taught in conjunction with the main degree. For example, if you choose to take Introduction to Literature through the Part-Time Study Programme, you will be attending lectures with full-time students when that subject is scheduled in the timetable. Timetables for an academic year are available in late August. Carlow College, St. Patrick’s offer learners the facility to change subjects/modules in the first week of lectures, if the timetable is not suitable. A learner must inform the Admissions Office of such changes. See list of modules, per programme attached.
Pathway to Full Time Education
Part-Time study at Carlow College, St. Patrick’s may also be used as a pathway to full time education. Once a part time student has successfully completed stage one of a programme they have the option to progress to stage two as a full time undergraduate student or continue on as a part time learner. As an undergraduate full time student you may be eligible for funding by applying to Student Universal Support Ireland (SUSI) www.susi.ie
